Chinese New Year Luncheon – Sunday 9th February

 

 

The solar Year of the Metal Rat (庚子) commences on the 4th February 2020 and once again we are holding a Chinese New Year Luncheon to celebrate and prepare for the year ahead!  

The Rat is the first sign in the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and for this reason 2020 is considered as a year of new beginnings and renewals. 

Generally speaking, Rats represent wisdom and were in fact seen by the Chinese as a sign of wealth and surplus. Those born in Rat years are considered to be intelligent, charming, quick-witted, practical, ambitious and good at economizing, as well as social activities. However they can also be timid, stubborn, wordy and even prone to gossip.

According to the Chinese Hsia Calendar however, the Year of the Rat is also symbolized by the Heavenly Stem of Geng or Yang Metal () sitting on top of the Earthly Branch of Zi or Rat ().  As such this is a year with strong Water and Metal elements, which is ruled by the 7 Scarlet Star in the Central Palace.  These influences suggest a year filled with opportunities for happiness and success, which can be attained via a combination of self-control and bold action.
